POLICY REGARDING SECURITY AND RELEASE OF INFORMATION

I have agonized over the issue of how much personal information should be made available on the Internet: especially with regard to family members who are still living. With "identity theft" becoming widespread and often resulting in the destruction of personal credit, it does not seem appropriate for me to post such things as birthdates, social security numbers, etc. However, the internet is an ideal place to make the general genealogy information available to the other family members who would like to share information, or just periodically monitor my progress.

Therefore, I have decided that I will only post the names, places of birth and the year of birth on the Internet. All other information which I receive or generate in my research will remain confidential.

I will release specific information regarding a particular person identified in one of the "Branches" only to persons who properly identify themselves and request specific information in writing. If the information pertains to a living person, I will attempt to contact that person prior to releasing any information about them.

Virtually all of the information I have developed has been from public records, which are available to anyone willing to put the time and effort (and sometimes money) into obtaining them.
